Lingerie & Swimwear Size Information

We are a UK Lingerie site and so all of our sizes are UK.  Where possible or relevant we have put the specific dress size with the product details.  Which means you need only check the comparison and measurements below to make sure you are ordering the correct size.

You might find it confusing that different manufacturers have a different idea of what large is... some think a UK dress size 12 is large!  Others are a bit more kind.    If you are in any doubt about the size to order please contact us.  We are happy to help.

Here is the comparison of dress sizes in the UK, Europe and the USA.  There are also the measurements in inches and centimetres for each size.

How to Check Your Bra Size

It is not unusual for someone to be wearing the wrong size bra.  The very fact that bras are adjustable makes it easier to get away with the wrong size than it might be with other garments.  If you want to know your correct bra size use the instructions below.  By the way, it is probably best if you get a friend or partner to measure you to get the most accurate result.

Bra Band Width Calculation:

Measure around the chest at the point immediately below the bust and note down the measurement.  If the result is an even number such as 28 then add 4 but if the measurement result is an odd number add 5.   The result of adding 4 or 5 to your under bust measurement gives you the bandwidth on your bra.   For instance, an under bust measurement of 29 plus an additional 5 makes the bra band width 34.

Bra Cup Size Calculation:

Now measure around the bust at the largest part.  You then take the original under bust measurement away from the bust measurement.  For instance you have a measurement around the bust of 38 and an underbust measurement of 28, so the difference is 8 and that means the cup size is DD.  See list below for other results:

  • 4 inch difference = A cup
  • 5 inch difference = B cup
  • 6 inch difference = C cup
  • 7 inch difference = D cup
  • 8 inch difference = DD cup
  • 9 inch difference = E cup
  • 10 inch difference = F cup

So You Think You are Wearing the Correct Size Bra!

It's thought that somewhere around 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra so it is very likely that you are one of this majority.  So if you have been buying the same bra size for years and think it is as right as it is ever going to be just read on a bit here and see if any of the wrong bra symptoms mentioned below sound familiar.

Bouncing boobs!  Do you avoid running across the office because of what happens to your front?  If you do then you are wearing a bra that has insufficient support.

Four breasts!  Pull your top tight across the front and see if you have the outline of four breasts?  If you can see this then the cups on your bra are too small.

Bra band rides up at the back even on the tightest fitting.  Then you are wearing a bra with too big a band size.

Wires cut into your skin.  This means the cups are too small.

If you recognise any of the four symptoms above get out the tape measure and ask a friend or partner to measure you using the instructions above.  You may be very surprised to learn your true size.  And don't be put off if you have always thought you were a 34C if you find your are really a 30E.  The cup sizes are relative to the band size which means a 34E and a 30E do NOT have the same cup size on different size bands, both the cup and the band size are difference and the 30E cup has a smaller cup size than the 34E cup bra.

With each band size change the cup size also changes - here is a list that illustrates this:

32D = 34C

34C = 36B

This overlap in sizing can be useful if you have seen a bra you really want but is not available in your size.  Just check if the equivalent size is.  But we do not recommend that you move more than one band size in either direction as it is important that the bra band should fit snugly.
