The benefits of buying lingerie online are obvious. Privacy being a very important factor and also the possibility of more advice and information than you would get (or be comfortable asking for) in a high street shop.

The following notes are a brief guide to help you choose something that will fit and delight the person you are buying for.

Size
This is usually the biggest problem.   Our advice is to raid the undies drawer and make a note of the sizes on the lingerie she already owns and wears.

If you are not close enough to have access to the undies drawer then maybe lingerie is too intimate a gift for this stage in your relationship. But if you are still determined to buy lingerie for her you could just ask her for her size. You needn't say it is underwear that you are buying... just say you want to buy her a treat and leave her anticipating the surprise. Or you could ask a friend or relative who knows her well.

If these don't work, then bring out the feminine side of your nature and offer to go shopping with her! That way you can check out the size of the things she buys.

If you are going to get it wrong, then it is a good policy to err on the small size. The flattery of you thinking she is smaller than she is will go some way to compensate for the disappointment of the lingerie not fitting.

Style
Again her undies drawer holds many answers. But also think about the type of person she is. Is she a girly-girl who likes frills and bows or a chic smooth and stylish girl?   This should influence your choice. Don't buy lingerie because you think she would look sexy if it is very different to her style. She won't like it and probably won't wear it.

Colour
For night dresses it is a safe bet to follow the colour preference shown in her day clothes... if she wears lots of colourful primary colours then you know she is not going to turn her nose up at a brightly coloured nightie. But if she is very conservative and her wardrobe is full of black, navy and cream then play it safe and go for white, cream, black or very muted subtle colours.

With bras and bra sets then again the day wear will give you a clue. If she wears a lot of light coloured tops then you best stick to a white bra set. But dark and coloured outer wear means you can safely choose a coloured or black bra.

Red seems to be a popular colour with men buying lingerie, but it is not always the first choice for the women concerned. Back to that undies drawer again! Does she have any red in there? If not then you would be wise to avoid red. We did a survey of our lady customers and found that pink, black and violet are very popular, with white being the practical choice.

Some colours look better than others on different skin tones. Clues to colour preference and which are most flattering can be found just by noting what the lady wears for outer clothes.
